FATAL OUTCOME
Was the sky scarlet at midnight?
A comfortable delight.
Does it count as morning?
Manannan’s warning.
It’s him I admire,
his eyes like sapphires.
He ignited a desire,
setting my house on fire.
His trench coat follows him
like a hero’s cape.
Venturing to worlds unknown.
His red car, taking me away.
As I’m mesmerised
by country roads and streelights,
I can’t help but ask,
how long this’ll last?
Will I remember the distinct
citrus scent from his daily drink?
His toothy grin?
His slight accent?
Will I learn to forget
the dye in his hair?
The show we’d share?
All the books he’s read?
He pulls me in and
painted my face
a light shade of gray,
and for once, I was perfect.
And when I felt the pressure
of the skies falling down,
he’d simply whisper,
“it’s just raining now.”
I hear the mutters
from somewhere down under.
Sickle sharpening,
but he is still laughing.
Crimson daylight is nowhere near
He is still right here.
