Desert Island

We find ourselves
shipwrecked and stranded.
A treacherous isle
that demands and demands
more and more.

A barren place
covered in sand.
But you make it as
though we’re in Wonderland.
The Mad Hatter
to my Alice.

Daylight’s cruelty,
quenched and moody.
Cold nights laying by your bonfire.
The optimism you inspire
in everyone.
My evening sun.

But I won’t linger,
time’s slipped through my fingers.
I’ll leave this place,
won’t leave a trace.

This lifeboat I’m on,
like it belongs to Charon,
no coins to give,
don’t want to board and leave.

You can carry on,
thrive when I’m gone.
Have your peace of mind.
Don’t mind me,
as I admit the ugly truth;

Even if I’m black and blue
I want to stay on desert island with you.
