NUHA (THE PROTAGONIST)
I have discovered a drought
when I was once flooded
with invitations and dinner plans.
My age arrived alone again.
Meeting my quarter life
where youth should be ripe.
Too old to be a debutante.
But too young for solitude to taunt.
My lover, you are
in the arms of another.
A life that should’ve been mine
but nothing is ever mine.
Another outing, I follow along.
A sister and her kids.
A brother and his wife.
A friend’s budding career.
I’m a star in their galaxy.
Six years since graduation
but time may as well
have frozen over then and there
because either way
I’m exactly the same.
So I pack my bags,
step through that door.
An old dormhouse,
better I do this now
than wait forever
Never-changing.
And hey lover,
it’s you I told first
that I’m moving away.
Your look of pride
as I leave your line of sight.
But you’re my dearest friend
wish you’d turn my way again
but I’m not waiting for you
I’ll live with these deep blues.
I’ll be on my own,
running from who I call home
and your blood-stained ropes.
A tight slammer, there’s no hope.
I find new faces
old souls accompany this place.
A source of comraderie
promising me company.
Renaissance of my youth,
a story that transcends time.
My delayed adulthood,
now beginning this life of mine.
