I have lost myself again
when I was already so lost.
I found my reflection
and found myself asking,
“Who the hell are you?”
And you never asked me that,
for you just always knew.
Sought me out in the sea and
took away the violent blues.
But is your helping hand
from the love of a friend?
Or is it the mandatory task
of a hero in a familiar’s mask?
Still you see the nicks
beneath my growing undercut.
Lifting the baggage
under my pecan eyes.
And we’re wrapped up
in each other’s presence.
It feels like a blanket,
a bed where I’m meant to be.
You tell me I got swept away,
went too far astray.
Made you worry, I took a misstep,
landed in his cobweb.
You extract the venom,
that he injected, the sickness is infinite.
Alas I find solice,
your kind eyes and a laugh so infectious.
I was hanging by a thread,
and as good as dead.
You untied his quality noose,
and said, “this isn’t you.”
But who are you to ask,
you’re why I went down his path.
I was so far gone,
desperate to make him home.
But the place he built
became my dungeon
where the walls spoke
and my room was flooded.
I ran so far south
I ended up back north,
in front of your house,
your clean fragrance and open door.
I may never be myself again,
but I escaped that hellish man.
I tried to outrun you too,
but that’s a race I’ll always lose.
So I’ll embark on a journey,
to meet the future me.
But I’ll be returning
to my amorous destiny.
Because a gold string of fate,
cut his red and summoned you again.
So I’ll persevere and chase,
‘til our forever begins.
And in due time I’ll be
lost in your caramel eyes.
But I’ll find my figure glisten there,
I know I’ll recognise her then.
